It can be as simple as joining a wine cruise (Silverseas does several every year),taking a luxury escorted tour that visits wineries (Tauck Tours is one), or have us take a string of cities (in Europe) and add a few local winery visits and an excellent dinner in unique restaurants in each location (IE: Primo in Rome, Buca de Mario in Florence, or Abbey Tavern in Dublin.)   Enjoy the Amalfi Coast or a villa stay in Tuscany and take a few cooking classes while you’re there.  Silversea Cruises has partnered with Relais and Chateaux to present some culinary classes and Jacques Pepin oversees the cooking classes on Oceania.  AMA Waterways does wine-themed river cruises.

Olive oil tastings are frequently offered as are cheese tastings (sometimes paired with wine.) Walking and tasting tours in major cities can be fun – Paris is just one city that offers a “chocolate tasting” tour.  Italy, of course, offers a myriad of pizza classes and gelato classes – these are especially fun for young travelers. Pasta and/or paella classes will give you new recipes to try out when you return home.  And, don’t forget visiting Guinness  in Ireland, whiskey sampling in Scotland, or chocolate tasting in Belgium. Learn to pour the perfect Guinness.

While you’re on a cruise, check with your ship’s activity calendar – many now include wine tastings, gourmet dinners where every course is paired with a wine and chef’s table dinners which often include a visit to the kitchen and sitting with the chef for one of the courses.  Also, be sure to check out the alternative restaurants on your ship – they usually provide an excellent experience.
