What’s all this about something called ILTM Cannes anyway? Well, it’s a great travel industry show held annually in Cannes, France for four days in early December. Luxury hoteliers, limo companies, tour operators and luxury travel advisors meet at pre-determined appointments for seven hours each day.
I attend every other year and this was the best show thus far. I reacquanted myself with some of my favorite “grand hotels,” met at least two new tour companies I will use for my custom European vacations, worked out a sticky situation with an upcoming group who will stay at an iconic Irish castle next spring, and learned a bit more about Greek islands and villas.
There is always enough time between appointments to chat with old and meet new friends in addition to checking out a few suppliers not on my appointment list. Plus all the delicious cafes for lunch and dinner daily. (Sadly, the Cannes boutiques are always closed by the time the show ends – but the window shopping at Hermes, Ferragamo, Chanel, Dior, etc. is fun.
I stayed in a 4 Star hotel which was very contemporary and very close to the Palais des Festival where the travel show was held.
I added a couple of extra days to my trip – I stopped overnight in Nice to check out another “grand hotel” and do a bit to shopping before the show. Afterwards, I flew home through Amsterdam where I enjoyed one night in a beautiful junior suite overlooking the canals at another “grand hotel,” the Hotel D’El Europe. I enjoyed a canal cruise that evening showcasing the city’s holiday light show.
All in all, a great way to spend the first week of December.
